"Established tank"

I hear a lot of the hobbyists here talk about established tanks, and how they are the best foundation of a lasting environment. Can anyone here give me an overview of what an established tank consists of? And how I can begin the process of starting one?

I pretty sure it means any tank that has been up and running post-cycle, for 6 months to a year. Depending on what you are planning to do (FOWLER, REEF) ect, your tank will consist of different things. If you are planning to go reef, you will definatley need to wait at LEAST 6 months before adding inverts and chorals, probably closer to a year.

That really depends on what corals you want to get. Different corals need a more or less established tank.
