i have this euro reef skimmer but in the book it says not to use buffs like the stress coat stuff or Calcium buffs but the guy at the pet store is saying that a Calcium buff would help the lr etc.. is it gonna hurt my skimmer to add anything like a Calcium buff

Two part Calcium/alkalinity additives like B-Ionic are fine to use. I wouldn't use any of the one bottle "buffers". They don't really work too well. Stress coat will absolutely make your skimmer go nuts.

id say dont add anything because your LFS tells you to, add it only if you need it.
what is your Ca and ALK?
