1 a piece. However both Matt's and Kurt's championships will go down as some of the absolutely worst in the history of NASCAR. Matt won 1 race during his champ season, and Kurt won 3, 2 of those being New Hampshire wins
. Nobody wants to see a championship won by a guy that finishes 9th all the time. We can thanks Kenseth specifically for forcing NASCAR to create the Chase for the Cup.
I really don't see what this is about.... The fact of the matter is that there is a 43 car field in the Cup series and Jr. is tied for 9th for all-time wins among active drivers. He certainly deserves to have a car in the field.
If you want to talk about wins in a short time period, or even championships, look at Jimmie Johnson. Nothing Carl's done, comes remotely close to the accomplishments Jimmie and Chad have achieved with the 48 team.
Does this mean Edwards team should be cut, cuz they ain't cutting the mustard like the 48 team?
The whole NASCAR point system is a joke. It needs to be weighted more heavily for race wins. I am a big Rouche fan since his drag race engine building days but have to agree Kennseth's championship win was a joke, Bushes sorta, at least he did get more than 1 win.
I think maybe expand the "chase" to 15 cars 15 races. Keep the current system for qualifying for the chase but once the dash for the cash starts make it about who has the most wins in the final 15. That should keep the winner in doubt at least into the final 5 races every year. You could make it interesting as far as who had the best regular season by awarding qualifying time bonuses based on their finish in the "regular season". I'd also like to see a rule where if a non chase driver were to with the majority of chase races they could "steal" the championship. I don't think it would happen very often but there would be years where someone has a shot at it.
