My water in my 55 gallon tank evaportes about a quater of an inch a week...... Its just the water that evaporates right not the salt.... So I can just add regular water and dont have to worry about the salt?
Thanks

Correct...the water evaporates but not the salt. I would add RO water not regular water though.

Put a black line on back of tank or sump (if you have one) and fill to that line.
This way it will help keep the salinity the same.

That is exactly what I do. This way, you only have to refill it to the line and you know your salinity is leveled out.

Same here, with the temperatures rising....the evaporation will be greatest in the summer months. Have water, preferably RO water waiting. Do yourself a favor, tap off daily instead on weekly. Makes for an easier transition for the fish.

What I did was put a piece of tape on the side of my sump. Marked the water line on the tape with a black marker and wrote "Normal" beside it. When the water drops below the line it's due to evaporation, the line tells me exactly how much water to put back into the sump to replace the water lost to evaporation. Atleast it used to, now I have a auto top off system that keeps my water level at "normal" 24/7.
