A few more, once you go RAW, you never go back...LOL
Lighting isn't the best, but I'm working on a new way to TRY and photograph corals and it's a royal pain with respect to lighting.... Anyway you guys get the idea..

And a few more...This one has some issues as the cloves can't be moved and the xenia in the background is creating some visual noise...

I don't usually do shots like this, but this one looked interesting

Four words... BEA UT I FUL!!!
I'd appreciate the full on geeked out report on the camera gear and exposures.
As a test I was pushing the fstop to it's virtual limits of between f40 and f51 for greater DOF...... iso 200
For this series I used:
Nikon D700
Nikon 105mm VR Macro

How can anyone who produces such healthy corals and BEAUTIFUL pictures have such a repulsive avatar?!?! Those teeth just creep me out!
But thank you for sharing your always gorgeous photos and teaching us how to improve our photogrphy skills!

I have to agree. Great shots terrible avitar.

I noticed your using the d700 with a DX lens. I have read that you only get a fraction of the resolution with the DX lens. are you going to get the lens that matches up with that camera and take even cooler pics? Either way, great shots!!

No DX lens in my bag, it's a Nikon 105mm f2.8 ED-N VR sometimes I'll use my Sigma 24-70 f2.8. Part of the reason I went with the 700 over the 300 is the FX sensor, the DX would work but you only get about half sensor use, you still would get great images, but I got rid of all my DX lens when I sold the D40..

I hate resurrecting old threads, but this picture is amazing. What coral is that in the first picture?
