Ever want to just give up on zoos?

Basically I have about 10 or so morphs of zoos and I became very drawn to the beautiful colors and the ease of care. However, lately I am finding that some of them aren't opening up as much as usual, are dying back and just aren't as eye catching.
I cannot find anything in particular to be the cause and in general I have seen growth in the zoos, I'm just missing that special something that made zoos so desireable...
Has anyone else had this loss of zoo appeal happen to them?

I kind of think it’s the “grass is greener on the other side of the fence” I have a lot of Zoos but when I started seeing pics of Rics I thought wow I want those same with mushrooms so I have both of those I think its just the addiction of our hobby and the fact that we want it all

did u change your flow patters or move a powerhead or anything. my zoos didnt open because i moved a powerhead just a tad bit and it disturbed them.
you can also look really closely at the zoos and make sure there are no bugs or anything in them. this was also a problem in my zoo colony.
i put it in my brothers tank it took out all the bugs, and it started growing like crazy.

Well I have moved some of the colonies and dipped them after I noticed some slight die off and it is a little early to say if it helped or not. I think the lack of desire is partly because they had been doing so good and with no apparent change they just lost their flare...
I suppose this is good for me, I can save money instead of buying every new color of zoos I see.

Try blocking them from the flow for a day or two, giving them a chance to regain their footing. Make sure you are not blocking the light.

That's exactly what's happening to me, I went through zoo spiders, zoo pox and some zoos that just die no matter where I put them. I never have a problem with palys though except they spread really fast! I've been selling and giving away all my zoos lately.

Well I'm sticking with what I have now. Hopefully I don't have any zoo eater or a disease and hopefully they will start to thrive again.
Some of the colonies have spread alot since I got them, which would be good except now it is almost impossible to remove some of the colonies to dip.
I think I need to find a new interest, not mushrooms through, they just don't have the wow factor I like.

Acans! I know I went WOW when I got up one morning to find my new acans snacking on one of my brains from four or five inches away. Not that kind of wow? Maybe some duncans or a nice pagoda cup. Both fun to feed and not so mean.

I would try acans if they weren't so expensive... Some goes for duncans but I like the ideas.
The problem with pagoda cups is all the ones I see at the store look awful and so I am not sure what to look for to find a healthy one, any tips?

Okay, please explain how an Acan can snack
on another coral? I'm still a total noob here. Thanks.

Well they just crawl over and take a big bite... Ok, maybe not, but they do have tentacles which they can extend and attack nearby corals, although I amn suprised that acans can reach 4-5 inches but I've seen some crazy things

I probably will be back, all it takes is one trip to the store where they have a new color and I doubt I can resist...

Fricken hell.

Okay(takes a deep breath)is there a rule of thumb on how far to keep Acans away from other corals? Do they exhibit cannibalistic behaviors as well?
Edit: Jerthunter, didn't mean to highjack this thread(Acan thing caught me by suprise). I just bought my first coral pack which consisted mostly of zoo's and paly's. I'm already a junkie. How many different specimens have you had at one time in your tank?

No problem, I am also curious in any new types of corals that might help me with the withdrawl I have from zoos.
As far as how far they can reach, I have no clue, I wouldn't have thought it was very far but 4 to 5 inches is pretty far.
As far as zoos/palys... hmmm, well right now I have
Green with brown skirts
Green with yellow skirts
Dark red with red skirts
Bright orange (maybe called BamBams)
Blue center with red skirts
Orange dot, blueish-grey disk, yellow skirts
Pale blue center, yellow dot and skirts
Bright pink center with red skirts
Another form of green zoos
Some large brown button polyps with green centers
Some pastel pinks
Some (Watermelon) zoos - Red center green skirts
Those are what I have now, I have completely lost a few, maybe 5 or so more morphs...

That's so messed up! I have a feeling one night I'm going to be walking past my tank and hear a faint "Feed me Seymour".
