The best way to know for sure is to just try it and see if they get along. After you introduce them to the tank, if they start fighting or after a week they are still at it, then you may need to get rid of the agressive ones until things calm down.
Don't worry, no one is going to flame you.

u could probly have 4 clowns in a 90g, make sure u know how to acclimate them right. dont float them for 15 mins then drop them in water

thank you I will go and get a friend for the lonely guy, and keep him seperated untill they are ready to leave the quarintine tank. how long is proper to wait to introduce anouther species into a tank with them? I know that anything I put in needs to be compatible, but is there an order that is best to place them in? I am a little gun shy as I bought 2 fish from a big pet shop at lancaster and they had ick (both died)
god knows I don't want to kill his beautiful creatures but it just seems like everything I read isn't concrete at all except for equipment I just want happy fishies thank you again for your kind reply and also for not "eating the newbie" :not sure: about anytthing for positive

Yea, I don't want to hurt any fish either...:nervous:
It probably doesn't matter which ones you put in first but theoretically you'd be best to put the smaller ones in first. Let them swim around and get used to things, then put in the larger ones. Larger fish are usually more agressive and if the smaller ones are already acclimated to the tank, then the larger fish may not bother them when they get put in.
When 2 clowns pair up, the larger one will become the female and the other one male. Clowns can change --- as needed.

You should probably keep them in quarantine for 2 weeks unless there are no other fish in your tank, then you don't have to quarantine.
Here's a useful article for you: http://petplace.netscape.com/article....asp?artID=955

thanks sly you are a great help I don't think I will ever feel like I know what I am doing, but it sure is great to know there are people like you to ask. goodness knows that my critters are precious to me (as are my birds and dogs) and I have found out just how truely delicate the little creatures are. my first batch of fishies were tang, ans star fish and they were wipes out by the ick (the stars by the medicine I think even though it said reef safe so as I have said I am truely a little gun shy if it weren't for kind people like yourself I dare say I would just give up!! thanks again ! shawna
