yesterday i found my second fish dead in three weeks. i never found any remains of my royal gramma, but today i found my clown hanging upside-down in the clutches of my coral banded shrimp.
all corals in the tank are healthy, readings are normal. no major changes have taken place in the tank. do i have an evil coral banded? have any of you had bad experiences with the CBS?

My CBS does try to pinch fish that come by. Grabbed a tail fin of my yellow tang once. The tang and shrimp went half way cross the tank before the CBS let go.
Lost my madrian to the cbs. the madrian just went everyplace and the CBS clipped him between the eyes. The wound never healed and the madrian died about two weeks later.
So CBSs can be dangerous. But that said he seems fine with a yellow tang, coral beauty, two nemos, green brittle starfish, and a yellow gobie. Perhaps they have just got it all sorted out. And he molts bout every 4 weeks almost like clockwork. Tank is 55g.

I just posted an update on my older thread about an evil CBS. He attacks my fish, so last night I caught him. I held him in one hand and clipped about 1/8" of his large pinchers off. He is doing fine and seems much more docile. If he wasn't, good luck grabbing with no grabbers. I have exorcised the demon!

I noticed that about mine as well. Without the massive claws they act much more friendly towards everyone else. Mine has been without main claws for about 6 months now(not my fault) and is very well behaved and for some reason has not motled them back(not that I am complaining). He has secondary claws so he isnt helpless and gets along just fine.

We've had ours for about a year now and does fine with 2 Clarkiis, Coral Beauty, Y-tail and 4-Stripe damsels and a Neon Dotty. If the fish get too close, he'll lunge but nothing out of control. Every once in a while he manages to nip one and the fish will avoid him for a long while. I believe all CBS have diff. personalities; sometimes you can end up with a bad seed, sometimes you get an angel.
Are you keeping the CBS well fed? That may help deter aggressive tendencies. Ours will eat anything, we just make sure he gets a share. It is always poking around at night, but doesnt seem to be interested in sushi, most likely hunting for pods/worms. Hope your luck changes, we love ours...one of the longest lived in the display. Wish we could get it a mate. Next time it will be a mated pair.
