explanation needed!

I had just started running a fluval system to help with clearing up my water. I was also running a backpak protein skimmer All on a 30 upright gallon tank. Well I turned off my protein skimmer and when I came into work the corals are now perking up and looking much better. could the protein skimmer be working to good taking all kinds of good things out the water. I'm pretty new at this any info would be great.

The skimmer does remove trace elements but I don't think it could have removed enough that fast to effect your corals. Are you adding additional trace elements and making regular water changes?
