external coast to coast

so i have this spare 30B sitting in my basement with a MH fixture and a few korralias and i've been thinking about setting it up in my family room. i want to play around with things i've been wanting to try like a ATS and a coast to coast overflow. i drilled my current 125 gallon and tossed some glassholes overflows on it and it works great but it's a bit loud and its right in the next room. a friend of mine has a bean animal coast to coast on his 120 and it's practically silent, but his is internal and i dont want to lose the real estate of an internal structure. is it possible to have teeth cut in the back glass for me to install an external coast to coast? if not, how do you think i ought to go about it?

You don't need to tooth the glass, just use one square of egg create glued to the top of the over flow. This what I have on my internal over flow it was made all out of glass.

if i'm doing an external coast to coast then i will have to cut or drill the back pane of glass. i would prefer to cut it rather than drill because i dont really like the appearance of overflow filter cones.
maybe i'll have to remove the back glass all together and have a sheet of glass cut to fit my needs. i guess i ought to call and see what they can do.
in any event, if i end up cutting the glass rather than drilling it, i will have to euro brace the tank too, which i'm not sure i really want to do. i'll see if i can find a picture of what i'm thinking of to give you a better idea of what i'm imagining.

Looks like a good idea.. do you have a glass cutter that will try it??
that is def. not a do it yourself project, lol unless you are an experienced glass cutter...
You almost might be better off drilling a hole in the bottom corner and build an overflow.. would be easier I think??? (though
would take a bite of size out of usable tank space)

i am such an idiot. after doing more research i have found out that another name for this type of overflow is a Calfo overflow, named after Anthony Calfo, a member of my reef club. I also just realized that at my reef club meetings, i BS with BeanAnimal (the guy that pretty much developed this type of overflow, I guess with the help of Calfo) and didnt even realize it. good things to know considering the next meet is this saturday!
