i set up my 10gal tank one week ago with 15 lbs of arag-alive substrate and about 5 lbs of live rock, and tonight the ammonia and nitrites are at 0. before you ask there was ammonia and nitrites in there a few days ago. the nitrates are at 5-10ppm.
i guess my question is do smaller tanks cycle faster than larger tanks.

I believe that maybe the case, as my 5 gal cycled very fast, in about 5 days. That being said however, I have still given the tank the extra cycle time to be certain, as I know extra time will not hurt the tank, and this hobby is all about patience.

Your cycle time will also depend on the quality of live rock and whether it was already partially cured. my 20 gal only took about a week. once the nitrates are down you could probably add a really hardy fish.

i used about 5lbs of lr from my 55gal to cycle it so the rock was cured. i also did the water change and everything looks good. i added about 10.5lbs more of lr and a maroon clown and it is going good.:)
