Can a Tang fatten up on nori/dry seaweed? I feed flake, nori, and sometimes frozen. My Tang doesnt seem to put on weight.Aften having his fill his stomach looks like a full trash bag until he craps.
He eats fine and acts normaly and Im thankful for that. I would like to see him get that rounded, plump look that Ive seen on other Tangs. What'll fatten him up?

What kind of tang is it? How long have you had it. It takes time, some time months. and they have to be able to be active because your talking about muscle build up. What your feeding is good , what kind of frozen foods?

Is he a yellow? My yellow was like that when I got him. I feed mine nori, emerald entree, spirulina brine etc. Once I started feeding him nori more often I noticed him beefen up quite a bit. seaweed salad is good too, but expensive unless you get it online.

Hey i know from some personal experience that some tangs can be complete pigs :D i prepared my nori everyday for her with alittle garlic and some kent zoe. i got her to thicken up a bit by offering her some nice fresh stuff like scallops and fresh squid from the grocery store.freeze it first then cut it into a thin slice and offer it to her on her vegi-clip , she should know by now that anything attached to that means food:D then remove whats left over after like 15 -20 minutes so you dont foul up your water. but thats what worked for me.~gill~

Thanx for the tips. Its a yellow who had a sunken stomach when I got him. It took a couple of days to take food from the clip.Like 55galGil said it nows when somethings on the clip it must be edible. I feed frozen formula 2 w/garlic,Prime reef flakes,Nori.I also have an assortment of flakes and stuff I toss in there from time to time.

Well generaly, Yellow tangs stay pretty slim compared to other tangs. I have 5 different types of tangs and all are heathy and the yellows are the slimmest.

Get some chaeto from someone and rubberband it to a rock and drop it in the tank.
That tang will eat that like a pig and it's also good for your tank.
