I have a pink and white feather duster that has left the tube and now all you see is the feathers sticking up out of the sand. Its still alive I think. Do they grow new tubes and if so ,how long does it take and can it survive ? thanks

The feathers will grow back. They usually lose them due to stress. If the worm is still imn his tube, be sure to spot feed with some micro-vert or some brine shrimp and you should see feathers start growing back in a week or two.

Thanks but actually the worm with the feathers left the tube and its body is in the sand with the feathers sticking out of the sand. My son took my camera on vac. so I cant show any pics. I wish I could it looks interesting.

If all the water parameters are in check, usually a Feather Duster (family Sabellidae) Hawaiian = Sabela penicillus,
Will drop its crown (radiole) when water quality declines abruptly, being tormented/harassed by a more aggressive species of fish or invertebrate or to reproduce. The Hawaiian species is notorious for releasing its crown if becoming somewhat stressed. Give it time; it will grow another within a few weeks. I guess that target feeding is just that much more important with the emergence of a new radiole.
Good Luck
