Feather Duster problem

I just purchased 3 feather dusters the other day and today I noticed one has died. I know this because a gel-like blob has formed on the tip of his tube. I purchased a feather duster about 2 months ago and it died within a week also. Back then I had terrible water conditions so i wasn't surprised. Now my water conditions are almost perfect. I say almost because my alk is slightly low. Everything else is in normal range though. What is my problem? I don't want my other 2 feather dusters to kick the bucket either.

Argh...another problem has occured. One of my feather dusters decided to reposition himself or the current moved his tube so i tried pulling him out and I guess he attached himself to a piece of rock. I pulled the tube out and the feather stuck to the rock. It's in full bloom and looks happy as can be. My question is, will it survive without the tube?
