so i got a feather duster today.. and i put it in my sand bed and my nassarius snails came out and started to get on them.. i dont know why they would do that but it concerned me. so i took one of the feather dusters and put it inside a hole on the live rock.. is that ok for them to be in there or do they need to be on the sand bed???

It should be fine, mine is resting in between rocks in my tank. They dont move around so it should be alright. Then again, I am dealing with my first, so I'm no expert. JMO hope it helped

The tube probably has some dead cells on it that the snails are feeding on. As far as the placement goes, you can put them wherever you want, wherever they look best to you. If they do not like where you have put them, they (the worm) will pop out and build a new tube in their desired location. Will be most likely underneath the edge of where a rock meets the sand.

They will move if they don't like where they are placed.

Just to give you an idea of feather dusters I had one I was trying to pry off a rock it had attached too....Well needless to say I pulled slightly to hard and bam off came it's tubular shell in which they hide in. I was thinking for sure it was a goner and within a weeks time it rebuilt it's shell and is still living happily in my tank... I was all aquarium creatures could take a beating like that and stil live through it.

I personally do best with featherduster worms in the rock work, better water flow since they are filter feeders.

Yes. I have 8 dusters and most of them have thrown their crowns at one time or another. It will grow back soon.
