Feather Duster Questions

I just purchased a new feather duster from LFS, I acclimated it and have put it in some LR in my tank. My question is what side does it come out of? It was buried in sand under some LR in the store and I'm not sure which end is up. One end seems to have a flap of skin hanging down, not filled, and the other end seems filled and has an almost calcareous ringed shell around it. Any help on which end would be up?

The side with the flap is generally where they come out at. The flap is used to help conceal the duster when they retreat from predators.
You do know to use phytoplankton over their feathers with a dropper or turkey baster to target feed them, right?
