Feather duster rebirth

So I had a feather duster for a while and one day I came home and the feather part had somehow detached from the tube and was stuck to my powerhead intake. I thought oh well I guess it is finished and removed it. I left the tube alone though. Now about 2 weeks later a new duster has appeared in the tube. Much smaller but definitely there. Is this a known phenominon?
Thanks

true, but why did it drop it. what is in the tank with it, anything bothering it? if it does it again i'd be worried.

yes, is a known phenominon. featherduster will throw their crown whenever they want to relocate,or because it's unhappy at that spot. also they do less of this crown throwing if you keep them well fed with planktonic foods...
