feather duster sick???

I bought a hawiian fether duster last week and im not sure what is wrong with it. The first day it was great. Then two days later it's plumes stared to fall apart, then it just layed at the bottom of the tank and the crabs attacked it. So i was going to though it away but when i touched it it moved inside. Now my question is will it get better or is a lost cause???

They sometimes throw their crown if stressed or picked on. The feathers can be regrown by the worm that lives in the tube.
