feather dusters and uv sterilizers

I was told by a lfs to get RID! of my uv sterilizer because he says they are worthless and it will kill off the food for filter feeders such as my feather duster. Somehow I don't believe him. I heard all the pro's and cons about UV. My tank is running great with it. Like they always say if it ain't broke don't fix it. lol, here we go again
this is one time, where i personally agree with the lfs, i do not like uv's personally, and IMO htey kill more of what you don't want than what you do want them to kill, like plankton which your filter feeders need
