Feather Dusters

New Member
I am adding a couple of feather dusters to my tank and I was wondering if I need to do anything special for them. I have a 29 gallon tank with 20# LR. 6 - small fish, 3 - urchin, 1 - anemone.
I am planning on adding another 10# LR

I forgot to mention that the tank has been up for about 2 1/2 years, and I have anassortment of hermit crabs for a clean-up crew
I acclimitize them like I do anything that I put in the tank. This may not be that important to a feather, but I would rather be on the safe side.
I then stick their tube into a crevice. He will settle in where you put him, just don't put him in front of a power head, he will never open. They like a nice easy breezy current.
Feather dusters are filter feeders. I add phytoplankton, about 5 drops a day to the tank for all my filter feeders. Something to think about though...I have two individual feathers and a duster cluster. I REALLY like the duster cluster. take a look at my web site to see what it looks like. When I place it I just found a hole in the rock big enough to accomodate the base and they must like it because I have new ones forming. They require no special care, just place and enjoy. HTH

Beautiful tank HD. Soon.. soon... well, maybe when I win the Lexis... I can have corals. Photoplankton huh? Tell me more about the stuff please. I have one new tu
orm (the big kind) but no other corals and I don't wanna overfeed my tank trying to target feed the duster. (It pulls in everytime I get near it with food.
:D No, it doesn't sound stupid. Sounds Kinky! :D
Seriously though, gjopp is correct. It is really hard to get them situated with tongs or grabbers. Besides, I am afraid I would skwoosh it if I used anything but my fingers.

yes you can touch them. Just don't jump too high when you feel the worm move inside the tube <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" /> It just about scared me to death, felt like it was jerking around in there.
I used DT's phytoplankton when I first started, but you have to keep it in the fridge. Now I use Kents phytoplex. Dose 5 drops everyday. Some people dose once a week. HTH
