featherduster expelling waste?

Today I noticed my featherduster had a dangling string out of it's center. I had just put Purple up in my tank so I couldn't get a good shot as it was cloudy. As I watched, the string detached and floated away then about a half dozen little nuggets were expelled. Is this waste? I've never seen it before.

If the feathers are still intact I would think that it was probably waste. Personally I would let the coraline algea grow at its own pace without adding anything but that's just me since I try not to add anything to the tank but water and foods.

Be sure to watch your levels closely when using purple up.

It's waste, most likely the Purple Up.
