Hi guys, just wondered if any of you feed your corals? I know they get most of what the need but wondered if they need a little something extra? I have a Nepthia, giant Bali Xenia, starburst colony polyp, and the new one is a clove polyp. Thanks!

Hi,

1 to 2 Xs a week....Kent's marine Coral food or Coral Frenzy is what I used to feed the filter feeders (some corals (not filter feeders) actually need a little chunk of shrimp)

Phytoplankton is another good food, and you can make your own. Just keep in mind to not overfeed, what corals feed on also feeds hair algae and other not so pleasant algae.

Release the food just in front of the coral and let the water flow drift over it with the food, don't squirt any food directly on the coral... or ... You can just add a cap full to the water. I always turned off my skimmer on feeding day because it just pulled the food out the water and wasted it (removing organic material is a skimmers job, and that's what coral food is). It will take filter feeding corals all day to feed.

you can also spot feed certain corals using the method in this thread

the corals you listed don't really require spot feeding but you can add coralfod to the tank and they may benefit. the xenia is almost a pure photosynthetic so it wont gain much from any feeding but th rest may.
