Feeding clams

I have a cleaner clam, and he buried himself in my substrate, how do I know if hes feeding?
Should I be spot feeding him like I do my fan? Or is it enough to just drop some invert food in the tank and let the circulation do the rest?

I would be very careful w/the cleaner clam. They are notorious for short life and can really foul the water if u dont find him quickly.

they filter feed, dont worry about them.
I have had many of them in my tank for atleast 6 months or longer
