I have a question for any buff's out there regarding Feeding Fish and inverts, using the main water pump and return flow from the filter.?
Inital feeding in the tank made the fish lazy and quite freindly to the feeder. This is unnatural in the wild and as a result i have been feeding through my sump pump. THe pump is strong , but more importantly I re designed the pipe returning the water to allow for different hole sizes and directions , creating increased water movement. While feeding the shrimp , or whatever frozen food I feed, is shot into the tank over a 3 to 5 minnute period and the fish compete for the meal. What has been very intresting is the tactics used, by different fish and the feeding frenzy it can create , just like occurs in the wild. Interestingly it is not always the best swimmer that gets the best meal. Even the clown, has developed a system where he waits near the water jets rather than dashing all over the tank like some of the other fish. The wrasse and other similar fish also score as pieces of are deposited on rocks or other surfaces for him to find. In addition the anenomes, also get their share, albeit infrequently, but that is also natural as the dont feed on larger shrimp or pieces of fish that often. I am also using liquid feed or invert food frozen in ice cubes, which I deposit in the sump and this givers a slower release and a wider distribution in the tank.
any comments on these methods, would be appreciated
