feeding my fish

some fish i have require to be fed 2-3 times a day. as i have become more experienced with my saltwater aquarium i've realized that the fish store i was going to was telling me what i wanted to hear so they could sell the thing and i've gotten some things i'm just not ready, or have the time for. i leave in the morning at about 6 and that's way to early to have the light in the aquarium on so i can feed the fish. so when i get home at about 5:30-6 i feed my fish then later at about 7:30 i feed them again. i'm just wondering why i have people telling me that once a day is enough while the book says AT LEAST 2-3 times a day.

First off... welcome to the board!
We only feed our fish once a day and they do just fine. But there are a few fish that have more demanding feeding requirements... seahorses being one example.
What kinds of fish do you have and what are you feeding them?

for the people who asked what fish i have... i have a yellow tang, a percula clownfish, a blue damsel(that has gone through setting up three tanks), an arrown crab, a fire goby, and a orangespotted sleeper goby. i feed them vitamin enriched mysid shrimp.

Three times a day is too much for those fish and the health of your tank. Also, feed them a variety of foods. Dried or live macro algae is great for most of your fish especially the tang. Formula 2 flake is a good prepared food. The mysid is great a few time a week. Live brine shrimp or blackworms are a nice treat once in a while too.
One thing... The tang is a grazer so providing the dried or live macro algaes regularly will do wonders for it.

Your yellow tang needs an abundance of greens in it's diet. Most LFS stores sell dried seaweed sheets that can be folded and put into a feeder clip. I use Seaweed Selects and Julian Sprung's Sea Veggies.

YUP! Very important for tangs.

once a day here too.
If their still hungry they can do what they do best. swim around and looking for food (algie, podes, and other stuff that floats around in the tank).
