Feeding my Lionfish

Hi All,
I am having a HUGE amount of trouble Weening (sp) my lionfish off live food. I got him about 4 weeks ago. I started feeding live guppies (Yes, I know that they are not healthy for him, but it was just because I knew he would eat them) However, he will not touch dead food. Even if I put a guppy on a feeding stick, he will not touch it. I have tried Krill and frozen silversides. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Scott

First of all there are LOTS of old posts about getting lionfish to go from live to dead food. I don't own a lionfish (although a know a little about them) but I would recommend doing a search to find some information that way.
Secondly since you are here I would recommend trying a wide variety of food, frozen brine shrimp, regular grocery store shrimp (as long as its not cooked) crab meat, squid, octopus, any of that frozen with liquid garlic on it to stimulate appetite. I hope that works out for you, if not like I said, try looking up some old posts for ideas. Best of luck :jumping:

Try live grass or ghost shrimp. Both of mine love them. What kind of lion do you have? The Pterois family is relatively easy to get to eat but eh dwarf lion family(den--something) is much more finiky. My antenatta will eat just about anything including floating flake that catches his attention(not primary food) but my zebra so far only eats grass shrimp. errr

Thanks. I am trying to get them off of live food all together. My lion is the same as your Avatar. I wish I could get mine to eat frozen as it would make things much easier. Scott

We soaked krill in garlic and put it on some fishing line. Then we made the krill "swim". This got the lions attention and he began to eat, of course this was only after 2 weeks of not eating.
