Feeding Puffers snails...

Is this a possibilty? They have shells which would be good for the puffers teeth, and they are live, like puffers like. It would save me a lot of money, feeding a puffer snails instead of shrimp and hard-shelled sea mollusks.

I don't know what type of snails, and my tank is in the middle of cycling, so, I'm not sure about what type of puffer I should get. I have a 2" sandy bottom, so I probably can't get a dogface puffer (right?). So, I was thinking either Stars & Stripes or bluespotted.

I could have sworn that someone on this board told me that dogface puffers cannot be put in tanks with sandy bottoms because they push the sand up and cloud up the tank.
