Oh man, he is SO incredible!! I can't wait!!
Does Valiant hitch much? He really seems to enjoy just free swimming. I hope when I get mine, they're just as active.
More pics as you get 'em...I have to live vicariously for now ***)

Thanks Lisa. Valiant does hardly hitch to anything. He seems to prefer to be free. I almost named him Spirit, except for the majestic way he carries himself when he swims. Although it is a joy to watch him swim about, I am very puzzled by this. In the research I have done, most information points to horses being stationary, for the most part. But this preferance, I am starting to guess, is more used in the wild. Seahorses live in shallow waters, mostly in mangrove tree areas. Because of the flows of the tides the water here moves very fast here. Tank bred horses have a very different environment. And..each fish has it's own little personality. He does find somewhere to hitch up for bed time....but I have seen him many times cruising around the tank at 3 am. He is also overly curious....last night he got himself stuck in the intake filter shield I had built from plexi. How on earth he got in there I haven't the foggiest.
The other thing that surprises me is that seahorses are predatory hunters. Valiant does not care at all for the food dish I made for him, although when all else fails he eat a bite or two from it. His prefered way to get dinner is on the move. I've tried turning the pumps off during meal time, he'll take a nibble or 2 but then looses all interest....
How much longer do you have to wait until you can bring your horses home?

Very cool video Rynka! Did Valiant change colors like that around the 1.06 mark or was that camera and lighting? Where did you get him if you don't mind me asking, LFS or website? He looks alot like my three black females I got back in January. Again, excellent video!

Thanks!
His coloring has gotten alot richer since I brought him home. When I first got Valiant home from the LFS his was a very dul black. He's been here 2 months now and his coloration has really brightened up. He's been getting a lot of golden highlights.I have also noticed that when he's hunting his coloration fluctuates, kinda like an octopus when they get excited. So, nope wasn't the cam.
Are your horses Kudas too? Do you have pics?

Thanks Lisa! He's the coolest fish I've ever had. I still can't believe he's really a fish.
Since the day I borught him home Valiant has never stayed put very long. Since he enjoys free swimming so much I almost named him Spirit. But the way he carries himself reminds me more of a Knight's noble steed.
He does hitch up at night, but for most of the day he's out and about. He's taken over the 90 gallon and makes that well known to the fire goby, especially at meal time.
I am somewhat puzzled though. All the information I have collected has stated that horses are more stationary. I have begun to think that perhaps that the "hitching" is used more for the wild horses. Seahorses live mostly in mangrove lagoons, where the water flow is fast do to the costant flow of the tides. Our tank bred horses live in a completely different environment.
And as we know, each fish has their own personalities. Personally, if I had to tag Valiant with with an attitude, I'd think his posture says it all! He's probably thinking:
"I'm too cool for my fins, yeah! I'm to cool for my...."
