feeding

hi so i just picked up a moray eel at my lfs 3 days ago... idk what kind it is. the guy at the store told me to buy raw frozen shrimp so i did and i threw a couple shrimp in a container soaked it in garlic nutrition and let it thaw out for a day. i threw one in and was wiggleing the shrimp so it could get its attention he started looking at it so i dropped it down and he didnt eat it....... so i was wondering if i did something wrong is this what im suppose to feed it
and i was also wondering what other fish i could put in their maybe a lion fish.. but not until the eels eating habits are inorder of course thankyou

You probably want to ID your eel if you're asking about tankmates...can you post a picture?
Also, how big is your tank (volume and dimensions)?
Your best bet is going to be using a feeding stick, at least at first. We use a "stealth stick" (see the article), and it's by far the best feeding tool we've used.

Thawing the food for a day is way too long, IMHO (hopefully the food was in the fridge) and the garlic is not necessary. Thaw the food, cut it up and feed it out. Also, be sure not to give the fish too large of a piece of food, esp. at first.
Also know that morays have poor eyesight and do much of their hunting by scent.

Do you know how long it's been since its last feeding? Did you ever see it eat?
Some eels need to be trained to eat frozen, you might have to start with live. I had to start with live with my garden eels and my snowflake. But, eels don't eat, and shouldn't eat every day. He might just be full.
What size is the eel? What size tank?

Looks like a Wolf Eel if it is I had one along time ago mine ate chopped clams and I mixed up a mixture of marine fish and prawns
