Looks good. Your going to have to have at least 100 lbs of live rock to keep the scooter blenny alive, since they mostly just eat pods. If you like the way the scooter looks like it has "feet" you may want to look into a phsycadelic (spelling) manderin or a green manderin, which are in the same family as scooters but are much more colorful. You could probley have a couple more small fish or one more larger fish if you wanted to.

Scooters are very cool fish and have personality that you would never get in a manderin. Manderins are more colorful though but the one I had many yrs ago you rarely ever saw. Anytime I sit in front of the tank here that has the Scooter in it he is front and center and will change colors and start showing off raising his dorsal fin which is quite pretty.

You have that backwards. The scooter blennies will eat the algae. The mandarines eat pods and need 100+lbs of very mature live rock.

Scotter blennies are the same as mandarins except they are more willing to eat frozen foods. Neither will eat algae.

 sep is right, my scooters eat green algae. mandarin eats only pods. i wouldn't recommend anyone a mandarin. it is a beautiful fish, but i only see mine once a month or so. they tend to be out mostly at night (when copepods are out). i only tried mine after being sure my 'fuges were fully stocked and dependable. if you can get your hands on some quality well-cured lr shelf, it will sit in the shadows and you can see it.
if i'm correct they are a mandarin goby
and scooter blenny
as well. very different although they look and move similar.
research and tell

No travis, you are incorrect on this one. Mandarines do not accept any prepared foods. Scooter blennies will eat anything and their main diet is algae.

Thanks for backing me. Let me clarify a point. Yes, the Mandarine is a goby, but they live off of a very specific diet. It is like saying ( and I know you didn't, just making a point) that a cleaner wrassie is like any other wrassie. They are from the same family but have very different dietary needs. One can live in captivity and one can't without their natural food source. Once in a while you will get a mandarine to accept prepared foods, but he will never thrive without his natural food source.

i got mine unexpectedly free, little guy at around 1.5".
two 'fuge's, chaeto and some other plant later the guy finally shows up. i was lucky in getting some rather large natural lr plates that i set up higher in the tank. he hides out on a halfway shelf i setup in the shadow. sometimes it will eat a bit of mysis or the ground up head of broccolli, but not often.
and i do see your point on the wrasse family. but mandarins and gobies are very different in many ways. there's been a lot of talk about reclassifying.
is it just us two on the board tonite? lol

I just recently got a lawnmower blenny added to my tank and was told to stay away from getting any other fish with similar shapes or habits as the lawnmower can bit nasty towards them. Perhaps the scooter would get picked on by the lawnmower?

Yes, apparently it is just us!!!! Mandarines and cleaner wrassies are my exception to allowances. Cleaner wrassies only live off of parasites and it destroys the reef fish when they are removed. But Mandarines (for the most part) NEED 100+lbs of very mature rock. You will not sway me on this Maeistro, They have to have it and will diminish in health if they do not.

I have read that, but know people who keep both succesfully. How big is your tank?

I had a manderin in a 50g for 3-4 yrs until I broke it down and this was before there was such a thing as a refugium. He prolly grew atleast 1" in that time he was about 4"long when I took him out.

well known and researched before. i decided i didn't want one, but once i came across over 400lbs rock and free fish rescue i decided i could try it. it has probably 200lbs in my 180gal which is usually why i can never find my smaller fish. i also believe this is why i can keep triggers with the little guys. the other rock is held in the other tanks until i get the trap figured out to separate them out.
right now my reef is a reef/fo. :help:

There is always an exception to every rule. What did your mandarine eat?

ok, mysis sheets a bit on the corners. just the smallest of the brocolli tops (taken off and ground my turtles eat the stalk). that's all i would see under normal lighting. that was only until the yellow/mimic (i'm not sure) tang got there. then it runs back to the dark. very little. it eats under moonlights and i see it on the back glass under the returns eating cope's in the morning if i'm there. that is how mine eats. it's my first, so i'm not making any huge presumptions on it, i just do my best to keep it plump. 4 months now and i don't see any signs of stress so far.
