The orange spotted filefish / Oxymonacanthus is very, very difficult to keep and do not live long in captivity. They require a diet of Acropora, if you can get this fish on prepared foods, you can feed a blend of Meaty foods plus greens, unfortunately this rarely happens in captivity.
If we are talking about orange spotted / Cantherhines filefish they can get to eight inches and require a variety of meaty foods plus greens.
This is where a common name can be confusing........ LOL
Do you have a picture?

These fish are among the most difficult to keep in a home aquarium. Their survival rate is abysmal, much like a Moorish Idol.
Chances are it will not survive in your, or anyone else's, tank. It's a shame stores keep importing them and people keep buying them, and stores import them again because someone bought it, etc.

the guy at the lfs got it in a batch from a supplier, he had never seen one so didnt know much, he said he looked it up a bit, but didnt find much, he also told me it only gets to about 4inches and eats meaty foods so it should be ok on brine. Now i dont know what to do?

I think the vendor is being a bit dishonest about not being able to find much info on this fish. One can find info on them just by googling. And they can't be mistaken for another fish! I think all you can do now is try to make it as comfortable as you can.
I work at the BBC in NY.

See if they will let you return this fish, try to get your money back or a credit, chances of survival are very slim.
