Filling my tank with fish

the other clowns may not get along with it. plus clowns can be very territorial so in a smaller tank i personally wouldn't want to take the chance but some people have had success mixing species. Again most of the time i would say it ends up in one continually being harassed

i personal would never go with a tomato ,cinnamon or maroon, these are the three most territoral and with the maroon being very over aggressive fish.
Look into black perc, clarki's are great and my favorite and will host alot of things. A blue strip is another that is good. And please stay away from skunk clowns.

I cant tell if my clown is eating. I put a couple flakes in the tank 2 times a day
(or mysis) and he occassionally nibbles it but it doesnt look like hes actually eating anything...are their bites THAT small? i just want to make sure he's eating before I stock.

Now obviously im not goin to put ALL of these in a 29 gal tank, lol. The Possiblities are the ones I want aside from the clowns...I'm thinking 2 clowns and about 2-3 other species. I also wanted to ask about Quarantine tanks. The store clerk....not the nice one I talked about before, but the odd one...said it's very rare that fish get sick. He said he's been doing this forever and he's never used a qt tank.
What are your htoughts on that? If I need one, how big and how long do I keep them in there a week or two?
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR GUYS' HELP!!! I appreciate everything.

wow....this LFS sounds pretty bad, no offense to you or anything = ( Honestly...they told you a tang would be ok in a 29 and then tell you that fish rarely get sick??? wtf. Telling someone fish rarely get sick is like telling someone the sun rarely gets hot. The guy may not use a QT, a lot of people dont, but I guarentee you he's had ich 90 million times. Although technically I guess ich isn't the fish getting SICK, since its a parasite and not a real deseise, but its still something that needs to be treated properly.
It sounds to me like they don't care if your tank fails miserably, they just want to take 200 bucks off you for a couple fish, then never see you again. The things they told you are the 2 worst peices of advice I've heard in a while, honestly.
OK, i've got it!!!....here's what you do:
Go back in there and ask them if that mandarin dragonet would be a good starter fish for your aquarium that you just recently set up. If they say "absolutely" or anything that sounds like "yes" or even "probably" at ALL....ignore anything else they ever tell you. A mandarin will starve to death since it only eats copepods (99% of the time) and those take MONTHS and TONS of rock (75+ lbs.) to accumulate to a level thats appropriate for them. So if the employee tells you that it would be alright, then one of 2 thigns is occuring....neither of which are good.
1. They are clueless and stupid. This is unlikely, since most people that work in pet stores have at least SOME semblence of a clue, if not from personal experience then at the VERY least they've been told what doesn't work by someone that DOES have experience.
2. They solely want your money and nothing else. This is almsot guarenteed to be the case. This is even worse than them genuinely not knowing whats right or wrong, because it means they are intentionally lying to you to literally STEAL your money. They know you're screwing yourself but dont care.
hope this helped.

Okay here are my opinions,
I don't QT my fish so yes i am guilty, but what i do is buy the fish and leave him at the store for a few weeks and check up on him once in awhile. This is easy becuase my buddy works there and watches the fish for me also.
After that is the transport, fish can and will get stressed or even ick from being transported, very common in tangs. But this has not happen to me yet but it will.
Now on to your choices,
A mandirian is a okay fish to have if your are willing to seed your tank with copepods every 6 weeks. Also scooter blennies fall under this too.
Basslets are nice fish but normal due poorly in home tanks, due to they are commonly a deep water fish.
fire fish great fish_very delicate and a great jumps

You may like it, but you should not put it in your 29g biocube...need over 100# of live rock.
The amount of live rock has nothing to do with it if you are going to seed a tank, If you went the natural way then yeah a 100 lbs of rock would be enough for a natural amount of pods.
I have had a scooter blenny for 3.5 years and have never had a problem with him and i seed my tank every other month.
Back to the topic, seeding a tank only costs about 20 dollars for a batch of 200.

You are missing the point. A dragonet needs at least
100# of LR to sustain a health pod population. A dragonet will eat all of the pods in a 29g very quickly and you would have to supply pods too frequently. Is your tank that small? If so, you are the first person that I have ever heard of keeping a dragonet alive for that long with minimal LR.

You would have to "seed" the tank constantly, and at $20 every few days/weeks, it is not worth it for a $20 fish, IMO.

I can see your point. It's just a riteous looking fish. I've been going through the fish today trying to find others I would like...obviously in the goby section or small wrasses.
Now when I get my second clown I'm going to need an anemone, right? I wanted to get a Bubble Tip Anemone, since I read it's very common for clowns. It says they're dangerous, how do I go about putting it in the tank? Is it safe to just put it in or is there special procedure?
I just want to say thanks to everyone who's wasting their time with me. I ask a lot of questions, but I want to be as good as possible with this new hobby. I plan on making it a longterm thing.

How long after having one fish should I wait to put more in? I've had my single clown a little over a week...how much longer to determine if everythings ok?

well if small a week is enough but to be on the safe side i always wait 2 to 3 weeks in between, i just keep myself happy with buying some zoo frags.

Hello.
I was at the LFS last night lookin at the clown fish. They had a very cool looking trigger in the same tank...I've never seen it before...he was only about 1.5 inches, but he had a spiny horn thing on his head that would flop up and down periodically. What kind is it???
I want to get him...I know you said triggers need more room, but he seemed just fine.
what do you think?

It could be a cowfish. OK, here is the thing... you are constantly wanting to put fish in your 29g that are WAY too big for it. Seriously, stick to small fish for a small tank. I know there is a ton of cool looking fish, but unless you are willing to upgrade to a lot larger tank, they won't succeed in yours. Then again, it's your tank, you put in what you want. I don't mean to sound harsh, but let's use common sense. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but nobody else is telling you this so I will.

No triggers!
clownfish do not need an anemone. what kind of lighting do u have?
the hardest thing to get over is that you have a small tank and you can not have tangs, triggers, puffers, etc. i know its difficult to get over but the sooner you do, the better
there are plenty of awesome fish that you can get for a smaller tank

You haven't mentioned your age, but you might be fairly young, am I correct? Then again, that has nothing to do with what fish you can fit in your tank, I'm just curious
