Filter exchange

I have a 55 gallon tank and my filter just died on me. Is there something I need to do in preparation of replacing my filter?

What type of filter are you using?

I.E Wet/Dry trickle, Cannster, Hang on back?

Are you saying the filter material is bad or the whole filter itself died?

The whole filter has died. It is a canister filter. It's a 55 gallon tank.

Nothing special you need to do. Do you plan on getting another canister? A small wet/dry with a hang on back overflow will be a little more money but will save you the hassle you have of cleaning the canister.
That is, if you have the room underneath the stand for it.
