Filter Floss

I got a JBJ 24G Viper tank. I just set it up on the stand and have not added water. I am waiting until I get rock and sand. Should I not put in the ceramic and bio-balls? I use a wet/dry on my 150G FOWLR. For this reef, should I just put in filter floss in the back and change it every few days?

well, im still learning myself, i just got a new tank as well. I plan on running it for a day or two on freshwater, to make sure there are no leaks and all equipment works. I'm not sure about the Nano, but in my Aquapod there is some factory dust inside so definitely running it for a day or two to clear that up is a must. I would take out the ceramic and bioballs, using the floss or sponge to catch the factory debris would be a good idea.
Once that is done, ill empty the fresh water and add saltwater. i plan on using floss, chaeto, LR, and a bag of chemi pure to do my filtration. I'm not going to bother with the bioballs or ceramics. Hope that helps.

Well, I plan on getting the Sapphire Nanoskimmer NC24. Hurricane Ike has delayed the release of this skimmer. I have heard good things about the old ones. This skimmer is designed to go in the center chamber.

Don't run bioballs as they require lots of maintenance to keep clean since its very easy for detritus to get built up in them. I'd use the space to pack chemipure, purigen, and rowaphos (in a bag.) Be ready to replace that filter floss VERY frequently as it'll be a nitrate/phosphate trap.

Would rowaphos be beneficial in my 150 fowlr? I currently have a bad case of cyano. Using all ro/di water, decent salt mix. I feed heavy because these fish need it.

rowaphos is always beneficial except when you REALLY overdose it and then it starts depleting KH.
