Im so [edit} confused right now. I have a 135 gallon tank that i just bought and i finished the stand and everything. This is definetely going to be a reef tank. I need to know if i should get a wet/dry filter, or is just use the spare 30 gal as a sump and is that a good enough filter, or is a sump a kind of filter at all. Extremely confused and i need some help. What should i do?

a sump isnt a kind of filter at all. It is just used to hole your equipment like your skimmer etc...i would recomend making the 30 a refugiem(sp?) that would be the best for a reef. With a 135 gallon though you should probably get a bigger tank like a 55 gallon so that you can make it part sump and part refugiem.

I use a wet/ dry filter with no refugium. The we/dry will house bio material that will help with the nitrification process as well as give you room for your other equipment like a protein skimmer and a heater. With a good protien skimmer and plenty of bio material you may not need a refugium.

I have a 135 also reef I have a 45 gallon sump tank under it, The water from the tank comes down on both sides into the sump this water goes through a filter sock on each drain pipe into the sump also the bottom of that section of the sump has filter pad under the two socks I like it because it catches stuff when I change socks which is about every 6 days. The sump also has a turbo floater skimmer which does a excellent job. This is just a few suggestions that may help u? Thanks!!

I have a set up similar to Fishguy. I actually took an old wet/dry and removed the bio balls and put a filter sock in it. Then I just have my skimmer. The best thing you can do is get alot of LR and LS.
Oh hey fishguy you said you change your filter socks every 6 days. Did you mean change them or clean them. Those things are like 10 bucks each at my LFS.
