Filter media?

I have always used carbon in my canister filter. I change it along with the filter every month. Is this neccessary? Should I alternate it with some other type of media? Also, my phosphates have been staying around .25. Should I use some type of phosphate remover? Thanks.

what kind of canister are you using I was thinking about getting one for my 20 gal. i have a marineland bio wheel hob filter rated for 50 gal tanks, i hate all the stuff hanging on the back of the tank.

u can do a mix of carbon and phosban. make sure u use the high grade carbon, bc cheaper carbon can actually leak phosphate into the tank.

I use a Magnum 350. Works pretty well.
