Do I need a filter if I have a skimmer and live rock in my display tank.I would like to get a sump or a fuge but the tank is sitting on top of a bar. Both sides of tank are visible

you can get a sump to go below tank and a fuge to go above? also it depends how much bio load is on your tank...if your overstocking your fish then you'll want a canister

I have been looking at fluval 304 and magnum but still dont know which one. I have read that some people dont use filters or sumps just live rock and power heads. I think I will play it safe and buy a filter

There is another post right now that is similar to this. Same topic filters. Anyways my experience is not to use a filter. I used my fluval for six months on my reef and found that it harbored a lot of nitrates, once I stopped using it my nitrates dissappeared within a month. So on my reef i now use LR, skimmer, and PH only. On my FO I use the canister with no media, just to run carbon. HTH
