Filter Question

My Eclipse3 hood has a pump with a tube that extends down to the bottom of the tank. My question is: Can I shorten the tube so that it sucks up water from mid tank instead of bottom? It would make it easier for me to clean the "pre filter" at the end of the tube.
Just not sure if its OK to shorten the tube. I thought that maybe is was at the bottom for circulation. I have two powerheads that are doing a good job at circulation.
Thanks in advance.

I don't have this kind of filter, but if I understand what you are asking...The filter draws water through a tube from the bottom to the flter and back again into the tank???
If that is so
...than don't shorten it. The yuck settles on the bottom which is why the filter draws from there..it isn't for circulation but for filtration, the circulation is just an added bonus.

Yes you can shorten it.
I had to, my sandbed was fairly thick, and I kept getting sand sucked up in it. Took an inch or two off, and it clogged a lot less.
