Filter/skimmer for a 10g Nano?

What is the best filter set up for a 10g Nano? I have a 10g now with a 40 watt PC and an Aquaclear 200 but cant keep the water quality up.
Looking to upgrade the lights to a 96 watt and want to get the filter right as well.

What kind of water quality issues are you having?
I feel your pain - I think a 10g is really tough, since it's so difficult to find a protein skimmer that is both effective and small enough. My main strategy right now is aggressive water changes (10-20% per week) and I am seriously considering a HOB refugium to help....

there's a light that fits over 10 gallon tanks called the Coralife 96 watt quad.... do a web search on it, you'll find lots of suppliers.

My tank is a standard 10 gallon: 20 inches long. That's how long the coralife fixture is. You can also buy plastic "legs" for it to make it sit higher up off the water surface and also make the length slightly adjustable.

IMO, nanos are for the experienced only. You're better off getting a 30 gallon tank for the simple reason all/most of your equipment can be used in a larger tank. Nanos are very difficult to keep healthy due to the fact of water quality can change very quickly in a smaller tank (i.e.) pH, temp, salinity, nitrates, nitrates, etc. In addition, you're only talking about 3-4 inches of fish you can keep; that's 3-4 inches, not fish. For saltwater, you need 3 gallons of water for every 1 inch of fish. I'd get a bigger tank. If you already have the equipment, the tank is the least expensive. Just my two cents.

try a skilter 250. it a combo unit that is a filter and skimmer. As a skimmer alone it can handle 125 gal...combo about 75 according to the manuf. thats what I have on my 13 gal.
I did learn one thing the hard way... if you have another larger, well established tank do your water changes and adjustments in the larger tank and use tha balanced water from the larger one in the smaller. :happyfish
