I wanted to know everyones thoughts on the use of a filter sock on the input into a sump.
Ive gone to several fish stores and I've seen an equal amount using them and not using them.
I have been using one since I started my tank ~4-5 months ago. I clean it every week or 2 as it does collect some stuff in it.
My issue is that now that my tank is established and has copepods/rotifers I find so many stuck in the sock each time I clean it. If I put the sock in a bucket and stir it up I will find a bunch of live little guys in it. I dont seem to have that many in my display tank but my sump/refugium are thriving.
So do you use a filter sock? What are the reasons you use them or dont.
