i need a new filter for a new 55 gal reef tank i'll be setting up in the near future. does anyone have a suggestion as to which one i should get. should i go with a wet/dry or a canister?

its a new tank . i have 75 pounds of live rock and 3-4 inches of live sand, nothing else in it yet. i just got a new aqua c protein skimmer. i'm using a fluval 404 for my other tank.

LR, LS, and a good skimmer is really all you need. It doesn't sound like your tank is drilled. You might want to consider a hang-on tank fuge to house some macro algae.
