I have a really great filter. It a filter and protein skimmer all in one. In the top i have started to see bubbles .. brown yuckie stuff. Can i take the tray and empty that? Is it ok to run it right under my tap water??
Lastly how often should i clean this tray thing off and change my filter?

The collection cup/tray can be cleaned as often as you like.And running it under the water in the sink is the best way to do it.But the filter pads must be gently rinsed in a saltwater solution.This is reccomended once a month.Ususlly done with your water change...This must be done carefully so you dont kill the bacteria growing in the media..
