Has anyone or could you use a external canister filter as a water pump? I needed a pump to pump water from my sump in my basement 10ft up to my DT and was wondeering if I could use a filter, i would have the advantage of another filter plus water pump. I would place the filter inthe middle, on a shelf, so it would have to suck water 5ft up and pump it 5ft up? Any thought about this?

My only thought is that you'll never find a canister filter strong enough to do that.
Canisters are designed to draw water from a certain height and return it to that same height. Doing this, combined with the sealed design of canisters, make their head pressure basically 0, so they aren't designed to "lift" water.
Even most regular pumps designed for aquarium use can't draw water up on the suction end, at least not 5 feet.
