what kind of filteration should i use on my 40 gallon saltwater i mean i want to get everything that will be benifical brice being no matter the reason why i want to go with so much filteration is i dont want living rock and i hear it is much harder with out living rock. So protein skimmer ???? Uv????? Substrate???? Fish???? and mainn filters power head if needed all advice greatly apreciated. At the moment i have a marineland emperor 400 and i think im going to add a filstar xp2 suggestion very much apreciated thanks

Deep Sand Bed, wet/dry, skimmer, along with the 400 filter you have... why no LR? if you have bleached corals in there you will be fighting the algae growing on them...

hmm i dunno i just like the look of the bleached corals 1000 times better i dunno y i know most people really enjoy live rock and it helps to but id like 2 try without it

Has anyone ever heard of vortex diatom filters how do they work and are they good will this do good on my tank.

Looks like you are really trying to get it all. This hobby does that to you I guess myself included.
Well the diatom filter is not something you leave on like you would a hanging or canister filter. The Diatom filter is something you use every now and then to polish you water with the diatom powder. Also it takes all the gook out of you water . I do like it but I think you can do without and it is not necessary but a luxury. A nice one at that. If you have cash like that than go for it.
