Do you mean RO filters. If so, no they don't go in your tank, you just hook it up to your water supply. It is a decent filter for the hobby but there are better. Such as a deionizing resin chamber. Even then it is suggested to take your water through a RO filter before deionizing it. But if it's decent water you're looking for then a RO filter alone will work. I personally use the deionizing resin chamber but know that most do not and they too have success.
RO filters filter water through a semi-permeable membrane while deionizing breaks it down even more(to a molecular lever) and ends up giving you one of the purest forms of water you can make.
