Filters in a power outage.

Can a filter system that includes just live rock and a skimmer be more apt to fail in a long power outage compared to one that contains a trickle filter with bio balls as its main source of filter media? Which would be the best in this situation?

All else being equal I would think LR would hold up better as it would continue to bio-filter where as a trickle filter requires some power source to get the water through them and back to the tank.
Of course no circulaton is a detriment to both systems.
But in this heat, you'd be cooked either way.
