Hi everybody,
I am in the process of moving and am planning on basically starting over. I currently have a 50 gallon reef tank with a plenium and no filters. I think I am going to set this up first, As a fish only tank and once i get it running smoothly transfer it all to my 100 gallon. Then I am going to turn my 50 back into a reef, which I am up to date on. I have suddenly realized that I dont know the current models of filters and which work best. Any suggestions are appreciated. I have an old Magnum canister that has good flow and an old Sandman trickle type that is suppose to be like a wet dry it has three chambers. I am sure there are some new technoligy in filters and am wondering what everyone is useing these days.
Thanks Bunches

Personally my only filters are Live Rock, DeepSandBed, and a skimmer.
Occasionally (once every 2-3months) I put a bag of carbon in my skimmer to 'polish' the water. Thats it.
Future plans include a refugium where I can grow some algae to help in reducing dissolved nutrients.

It is a sump that has LS, LR, algea to eat nitrates and also feed livestock, you can also grow other living foods in them.
They have a flow of about 5 gph max.
Do a search and get more info.

A refugium is a place where (macro)algae, copepods, amphipods, etc can grow without predation.
There are different ways to implement one, some ppl convert their wet/dry sump filter into one, CPR makes a hangon version.
Do a search for more info they have been discussed frequently.
