Can anyone tell me if you can have mechanical filtration (filter and carbon) if you also have a biological filtration system (ecosystem, sump), to help aid in clarifying the water? Thanks

i dont see a problem. i know a number of people will run carbon on a on/off type schedule which varies by user.

Sure...running carbon now and then can be a good thing. I don't normally run it longer than a week or so...but many folks run it 24/7. I prefer to use it for a week or so maybe once a month. I believe it helps remove potential toxins and polishs up the water a bit...sort of helps to keep the water clear.
