saltwater newbie

Hello,
I lack adequate lighting and a protein skimmer for my tank. As an interim workaround:
1. For lighting: The tank is located in a west facing atrium (yields plenty of indirect light), 12 hrs of artificial lighting and additions of calcium and trace mineral additives. The coraline algae on my LR and my anemones are doing fine after a year and a half.
2. For filtration: I have 90 lbs of LR, centralized Power Sweep Rotating PH, HOT Magnum and Penguin 130. After the initial cycling of the tank, my tank is quite stable, including the necessary tests (nitrita/-ate, calcium, salt etc).
I can only purchase one item at this time: either the lighting or the protein skimmer. For lighting, I'd like to buy a Power Compact 96 watt bulb. But since summer is coming (bringing plenty of light), I may be able to put this off and buy the protein skimmer instead. For less than $200 I was leaning towards the Sea Clone (quieter) over the Prizm.
I probably have an unorthodox approach to fishkeeping, but I like to experiment with my tank. Since I've been treading carefully, I have been fairly succesful and haven't lost much except for hermit crabs.
My question is: If I were to remove my HOT Magnum filter and replace it with a protein skimmer, will the LR and Penguin 130 be able to sustain the bio load? (I plan on having a Berlin Method of reefkeeping.)
Weeks after the tank stabilizes with my protein skimmer, I plan on getting 3 anemones accompanied by 2 ocellaris clowns.
My final purchase will by the lighting (and/or canopy).
Do you think this approach is feasible?
Thanks,
