Filtration??

I'm starting a 20 gallon reef tank. I was told that a protein skimmer is all the filtration I need. Is this true? Do I not need a hang on or something with carbon?

skimmer, live rock, and good circulation...should be good enough for most tanks

A quality skimmer....a source of biological filtration(LR and/or LS)...and decent circulation...and adaquate lighting...makes a solid foundation for any sized reef.Some type of mechanical filtration can help...but isn't required in most situations.
